Subject: [bpa-news1] BPA Email lists moving: Advance notice and Advice sought

BPA List members:

I anticipate moving the BPA email lists to Google or Yahoo Groups. This should have little impact on you as a list member: You will NOT need to resubscribe - your current subscriptions will be automatically transferred.

One purpose of this message is so that the formal announcement of the change does not come as a surprise.

However, I am also seeking seek advice/comments from list members with relevant experience to make the transition easier: things to do, things to avoid, and the tradeoff between Google and Yahoo groups for lists such as ours. My initial thoughts at: http://www2.bpaonline.org/Online/bpa-list-move-advice-sought.html

The motivation for this change:

The problem is that overly aggressive measures to combat SPAM by the various Internet Service Providers (ISPs) - most notably AOL, Comcast, Earthlink, Hotmail and Yahoo - are resulting in messages to members of the BPA lists being blocked/delayed with increasing frequency.
Issues:

  1. Concern that an important notice sent via the email list will not reach a significant fraction of membership.
  2. Increasing administrative burden.
