TAX HELP FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

A corps of senior volunteers are trained and ready to help men and women 60 and older, with low and moderate incomes, cope with filing income tax returns.

The AARP-sponsored free Tax Counseling Service of the Senior Center of Palo is available on Fridays 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. through April 12. People are seen on a first come ‹ first served basis at 425 Bryant Street. No appointment is needed.

Representatives of the Internal Revenue Service and the California Franchise Tax Board gave the Palo Alto tax counselor volunteers a solid week of training in January to bring them 'up to speed' on the intricacies of the federal and state tax regulations for 1995 tax returns.

Those who plan to use the service should drop by the center's information desk at 353 University Avenue, Palo Alto, ahead of time to pick up a sheet listing information to bring with them to their tax counseling session.

More information is available by calling (415) 327-2811. For further information about Seniors' Activities in Palo Alto or other senior support, contact me at 493-8023.
