Natural Habitat Restoration/Preservation Activities, Barron Park (Neighborhood) Association
Advice: Links to related pages are repeated in several
places.
Browsers typically indicate when a page has already been visited,
so this redundancy should be a convenience (multiple access paths)
that does not cause confusion.

- Satellite Photo of San Francisco Bay Area (JPEG image, 670x602 pixels)
from
Digital Satellite and Aerial Data
from the Eros Data Center
of the US Geological Survey.
This photo is also available as a wall poster entitled
San Francisco from Space.
In the JPEG image, vegetation appears as reddish areas
(it is green in the wall poster).
Notice how few wildlife corridors there are between the Bay
and the foothills.
San Francisquito Creek is one of the few creeks that still has
a visible greenbelt.

- California Watershed Assessment Manual (from UC Davis)
"Volume I detailed the process for watershed assessment,
from organizing the stakeholder process through scientific evaluations,
to reporting conditions and developing watershed management plans.
Volume II provides the watershed community with guidance on ways
to include information on water quality,
benthic macroinvertebrates, periphyton, fire ecology, and
river processes.
It does all of this in the context of environmental indicators and
conceptual models."

- Habitat Restoration Information Center buying guide and bookstore
- Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve (Stanford University) - as of April 1997, most of site was still under construction (but promising)
- Natural History of the Monterey Bay Area - as of May 1997, promising, but sections of interest here not yet populated
- Wildlife Protection Handbook
from System for Conservation Planning being used in Summit County, Colorado
hosted by The Natural Resources Ecology Laboratory
at Colorado State University
Note:
Have only quickly sampled this long booklet.
Very promising.
Covers many issues: from high-level political to lower-level technical.
- Riparian EcoEngineering
Specific to Whitewater River in Riverside County, California,
but has multiple relevant links for our projects.
Warning: a fair number of the links are broken as of 4/1997.
- The value of riparian vegetation
from Water and Land Resources Division of King County, Washington
Note: Nice, short, high-level statement of goals and benefits of such efforts.
Advice: Poke around on related pages. Interesting info (but I didn't thoroughly explore site - this is the most relevant page that I found).
- Useful links page from the U. of Wisconsin Arboretum (includes California-relevant links)
- Article
on landscaping with native plants
in 18 April 1997 edition
of the Palo Alto Weekly
- A Reference List for Plant Re-introductions, Recovery Plans and Restoration Programmes: a list of international scope from Kew Royal Botanical Gardens (UK)
Includes extensive bibliographies, but of limited use because
there are no annotations about the articles,
so you are dependent entirely on the titles.
Also, this bibliography is citations of papers in traditional
publications -- no links.
(April 1997)
- EPA Watershed Discussion Group (EPA = federal Environmental Protection Agency):
It is an interactive platform for watershed
groups and others, including EPA staff, to pose questions and to share
info, lessons learned, success stories, etc. You will need to first
register in order to post messages.
We currently have the following seven categories (although users can
suggest new ones):
- Community Involvement
- Invasive Species
- Smart Growth/Low Impact Development
- Watershed Planning Tools
- Source Water Protection
- Stormwater Best Management Practices
- Sustainable Financing
